Sodium, potassium, and magnesium for health

Our salts are important sources of essential minerals that are important for health and a balanced diet. The minerals sodium, potassium and magnesium support many body functions and are essential for our well-being.

Natrium

Sodium is an essential mineral that plays a variety of important roles in the body. It helps maintain the body's fluid balance by making sure that fluids are in the right proportions both inside and outside the cells. Sodium also plays a crucial role in the transmission of nerve impulses and muscle contraction. In addition, sodium supports acid-base balance by acting as a buffer, regulating the balance between acids and bases in the body.

Another important aspect is the regulation of blood pressure. High sodium intake, especially in the form of table salt (sodium chloride), can increase blood pressure. This is because sodium binds water in the body, which increases blood volume and causes pressure in the blood vessels to rise. A balanced ratio of sodium and potassium is, therefore, particularly important.

Sodium deficiency can occur as a result of excessive fluid loss due to heavy sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting. This can lead to symptoms such as muscle cramps, fatigue, headaches and, in extreme cases, serious health problems.

Kalium

Potassium plays a central role in our health, fulfilling a variety of important functions. It is the major cation in cells and plays a central role in maintaining osmotic pressure and electrolyte balance. One of the main functions of potassium is to regulate acid-base balance. Potassium is also essential for nerve impulse transmission, protein and carbohydrate synthesis, bone strength, and hormone release.

An important aspect is the regulation of blood pressure, as potassium balances the effect of sodium and helps to lower blood pressure. Increasing dietary potassium intake is, therefore, considered one of the best lifestyle changes to prevent cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke.

Balanced potassium levels are therefore essential for overall health and well-being. Potassium in the form of potassium chloride is particularly available to the body, so adding potassium chloride to your diet has many health benefits.

Magnesium

Magnesium is an essential mineral that, along with sodium and potassium, performs many important functions in the body. Magnesium is important for maintaining healthy bones and teeth, regulating muscle and nerve function, supporting a healthy immune system, and aiding in protein synthesis. Magnesium may also help stabilize blood sugar levels and lower blood pressure.
